From MTN South Africa Philip Besiimire joins Vodacom Tanzania as Managing Director

Phillip Besiimire a Ugandan citizen has been appointed by Vodacom Tanzania as the telecom’s new Managing Director.
Besiimire will be
reporting to Diego Gutierrez, the Chief Officer - International Business.
The Tanzanian
telecom company, in a recent statement issued on Wednesday last week, said that
Philip Besiimire will begin work on 15th October 2022.
“We are
pleased to announce the appointment of Philip Besiimire as Managing Director
for Vodacom Tanzania, effective October 15, 2022. With his leadership, we will
continue to lead Tanzania into the digital age and change lives through
technology,” the company stated in a recent communication.
Besiimire joins Vodacom Tanzania from MTN South Africa where he has been serving as Chief Officer of sales, distribution and regional operations.
Before he joined MTN South Africa, he had served under the continental telecom giant MTN Group in different capacities such as: CEO of MTN South Sudan, Chief Marketing Officer at MTN Zambia as
well as Chief Marketing Officer and Acting CEO at MTN Swaziland (Eswatini).
Besiimire holds a Masters' degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the Netherlands.

Philip has over 15 years of telecom management experience in leadership and commercial execution (marketing, consumer, enterprise and mobile financial services) working with one of the largest telco companies in Africa.
He holds a master’s degree in Business Administration from the Netherlands and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from Makerere University.
Besiimire's appointment reflects the ambition of the Vodacom Tanzania Board to expand their position in the telecom sector and to continue to deliver on their social contract and purpose - which is to lead Tanzania into the digital age and changing lives through technology.
Vodacom
Tanzania Limited is Tanzania’s leading cellular network company. As of December
2020, Vodacom Tanzania had over 15.6 million customers and was the largest
wireless telecommunications network in Tanzania.
According to Vodacom, Besiimire brings international leadership experience and valuable
knowledge to this important leadership role.
“He has an
exceptional track record of growing businesses and delivering strategic
transformation. His appointment reflects the ambition of the Board of Vodacom
Tanzania to grow our position in this important sector,” the company said.
